ClipSync (Beta)
Synchronize your clipboards over LAN

What is ClipSync?

ClipSync is a service that automatically synchronizes your Windows computer clipboard with all your Android devices over your Local Area Network (LAN). Once all devices are connected, copying text on one device will automatically update the clipboard of all other devices and your PC.

The synchronization works in two ways. So copying text on your Windows machine will also update your Android clipboards.

Setting up ClipSync Server on your Windows PC

ClipSync Server can be downloaded from http://bdwm.be/cs/.

After ClipSync Server is installed, you can find the program under Start > All Programs > ClipSync Server.
There will also be a shortcut on your desktop, which you can safely delete if you don't want it.

It is sufficient to execute ClipSync.exe to start the service. You can always check if the service is running by looking in the notification area. If the ClipSync icon is present, everything is fine.

Note: The icon might be hidden. To view all icons click the little upward arrow.

Note: By clicking on the notification icon, a context menu will apear. From here you can close the application and verify your IP address. (Figure 3.2)

Setting up ClipSync on your Android device

Simply install ClipSync from the android market by searching for "ClipSync" on your android device, or by visiting https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.bdwm.clipsync

After installation is complete, open ClipSync, fill in the IP address of your Windows computer and flip on the service. Figure 3.1 shows a screenshot of the application.

Figure 3.1: Switch on the service by pressing the on/off switch.

Hint: You can easily find your IP adress by clicking on the ClipSync notification icon on your Windows machine, as shown in figure 3.2

Figure 3.2: You need this IP address to configure ClipSync on your Android devices.

Important! Your Android devices need to be connected trough WiFi on the same Local Area Network (LAN) as your Windows machine.
This may change in future, as ClipSync matures, but for the moment it is not possible to synchronize clipboards while your device is connected via mobile internet or Bluetooth.

Known problems, limitations and specs

All these limitatons and problems will be addressed in future versions.
  1. You can copy a maximum of 1.449 characters. If you try to copy more characters you will only received the last characters.
If you, for example try to copy 1.459 characters, the first 1.499 characters will be discarted and your clipboard will only contain the last 10 characters.
  2. You can only copy plain text between devices. Support for copying images may become available in future versions.
  3. ClipSync uses network port 22983. This port needs to be free, or the service won't run.
Usually this port is always free, so you probably don't need to worry about it.
